Let's Go Full Swing On Our Subject Of Kitchens

The ELLE DECOR magazine for December 2009 did a great piece on kitchens of today so we can compare them with the 1997 kitchens. The interesting thing is, what has become of kitchen islands. Are they here and are they needed anymore? I will let you decide the answer to that question. We are going to look at some rustic, contemporary and sleek 2009 kitchens.

William Waldron photographed this kitchen which features a farm table made for reclaimed barn wood, mismatched chairs and classic white cabinets creating a casual elegance to the kitchen.

This photograph was taken by Simon Upton. This kitchen is at a beachside getaway in Brazil. The polished cement counters are warmed up by tropical touches such as bamboo side tables, slatted wood cupboards and an array with woven trays and baskets.

This kitchen was photographed by Gilles Trillard. The red lacquered cabinets add a punch of color to a contempoary kitchen. It has an oversized mirrored hood above an expansive marble topped counter.

This kitchen was photographed by Eric Piasecki. This New York kitchen has stainless-steel open shelves installed along the walls and windows.

This kitchen was photographed by Martin Dyrloev. This industrial kitchen is in Spain and reflects rough-finished concrete floors and sculptural white Panton chairs surrounding a chunky wood table.

So what is your answer? Are kitchen islands as popular as they have been in the past?
